Somewhat in the doldrums with my painting, I was looking Fay Godwin's astounding black & white landscape photographs, and realised once again how much I prefer B&W to most colour photography. I wasn't going to compete with Fay but thinking to continue my exploration of the human figure I happened on a B&W 'glamour' photograph which struck me by its extreme tonal values. Since I like B&W photos so much, I thought why not try a B&W painting?
This is the result - a very difficult technical exercise - because highlit areas which in a drawing you might rely on the white paper, when set against the juxtposition of the glaring white china cup, it was apparent that this option was not possible.
